My name is Kristafer Howard. I am currently enrolled in the Master of Marine Science program at Savannah State University, where I am researching the effect bycatch reduction devices have on the catch of blue crab Callinectes sapidus. What I enjoy most about marine science is all the places that this field can take you. I have had the opportunity to conduct research in places like Belize, Alaska, Florida Keys, Costa Rica, and many more cool and exciting places. I wanted to be involved with #BlackInMarineScienceWeek because I think we need more representation in the scientific community. I hope that #BlackInMarineScienceWeek is able to inspire black kids to never give up on their dreams and have faith in themselves that they can accomplish anything.
